Mentorship

Mission/task:

Encouraging remotely professionals help each other for their work life including improving work quality, preventing burnout, and increasing remote professionals's wellness

My role: User research, UI/UX designer

Result: Design an mobile application "Mentorship"

Problem statement:

Since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, companies have expanded remote work to ensure their employees remain healthy and productive. Although many employees have thrived in a remote environment, balancing home and work life has been challenged in new ways. Workplace burnout and social isolation have caused concerns up and down the corporate ladder, with leaders reconsidering their remote work policies.

Users:

For an introverted professional, remote working environment is ideal because she is not forced to make small talk with office politics. However, this work style brings an unspoken pressure to work longer hours to participate in blurred workplace boundaries such as responding their team after hours.

For most extroverted professionals are better at communicating their workplace boundaries so they don't feel burnout immediately. However, lack of in-person collaboration and socialization can cause an extrovert to feel unmotivated and unproductive, and will eventually result in burnout and starting to affect their overall health.

Research findings:

After interviewed with around 20 participations, here are some feedback applied for both introvert and extrovert professionals when they are working remotely.

  • Virtual computer setup can be difficult

  • Miss social life and water cooler moments

  •  Having to wait for scheduling meeting and problem solved

  • Feeling unmotivated to work

Product purpose:

  • Leading professionals to improve their work quality by interactions with other professionals who are in the same industry

  • Encouraging professionals connect to each other who are sharing similar interests or working in the same industry.

  • To build connection and increasing opportunities for job hunting

  • Adding feature of rewards system so that user won't get bored with the application
